DeepSeek, the Hangzhou-based AI startup founded in 2023 by Liang Wenfeng, will raise API prices by 50% to over 1,100% starting August 16, 2025. The increases affect the V4-Flash and V4-Pro models and introduce a new peak and off-peak pricing structure, with peak rates set at twice the off-peak level. For the V4-Flash model, output tokens during peak hours reach $1.32 per million tokens, nearly five times the previous flat rate of $0.28. The company attributes these dramatic price hikes to surging demand that exceeds its current capacity. DeepSeek is backed exclusively by High-Flyer, a Chinese quantitative hedge fund.
