Over 80 assaults targeting cryptocurrency holders have been recorded in France since the start of the year. A couple in the Somme region, with no connection to the crypto sector, nevertheless suffered three break-ins at their home in less than a month after purchasing a house from retirees whose personal data had been stolen and sold on the darkweb as high-potential crypto targets. During the second attack, one of the victims was tied up and beaten live on Snapchat. Three different criminal groups consulted the same outdated file to carry out these assaults. Two attackers recruited via Telegram for 15,000 to 20,000 euros were sentenced to three years in prison with one and a half years firm and 18 months with nine firm respectively. The couple is now considering selling their home.
