The FBI and Australian Federal Police jointly dismantled an international cryptocurrency laundering operation. Two Australians were arrested in Perth: 21-year-old Reuben Ian Thomson and 23-year-old Louis Michael Gebler. The suspects allegedly organized a supply-chain attack by embedding malware in open-source software development tools, compromising over 1,000 organizations worldwide and stealing 300 gigabytes of corporate data along with 500,000 user credentials, sold for cryptocurrency on darknet forums. Authorities seized substantial crypto assets and premium properties purchased with the illicit funds. Thomson has been formally charged with intentionally dealing with proceeds of crime exceeding $100,000.
