Clarity Act Latest Draft Bars Trump From Crypto Ventures—But Only Until 2029

Share

The latest Clarity Act draft bars the president, senior officials, and their spouses from issuing or sponsoring cryptoassets during their term. This ban automatically expires on January 20, 2029, at the end of the current presidential term, and does not cover Trump’s sons (Don Jr. and Eric), who are involved in World Liberty Financial. Financial disclosures revealed Trump earned more than $1.2 billion in crypto last year. The text, which also preserves the Blockchain Regulatory Certainty Act protecting non-custodial developers, requires 60 Senate votes, including at least 10 Democrats, to pass. Senate Majority Leader John Thune intends to bring the bill to a floor vote in the coming days, with August widely seen as the last realistic window before the November midterms.
