China’s CXMT emerges as potential US chip supplier, raising national security alarms

ChangXin Memory Technologies (CXMT) controlled approximately 7.7% of the global DRAM market as of July 2026, making it the world’s fourth-largest producer. The company raised $8.6 billion in its IPO on Shanghai’s STAR Market, the largest in Asia that year, with a market capitalization briefly exceeding $484 billion. CXMT produces advanced DDR5, LPDDR5, and LPDDR5X DRAM chips used in smartphones, servers, and AI data centers. A full ban on CXMT imports would likely benefit Micron, Samsung, and SK Hynix while raising memory prices industry-wide.
