Brazilian Farmers Are Tokenizing Cows to Get Farm Loans—And It’s Working

Brazilian farmers are using AI-powered electronic chips to tokenize their livestock and secure agricultural loans. Fazenda Engenho Velho obtained a R$100,000 loan backed by ten cows, the first tokenized livestock collateral registered on Brazil’s stock exchange. Cowmed monitors 100,000 cattle across Brazil and other countries, while agricultural bankruptcies have quadrupled to nearly 2,000 cases in 2025. This approach allows banks to bypass the traditional 60% discounts applied to livestock, and four additional farmers are under evaluation for R$5 million in credit by end of 2026.
