Gold rallied 28% over the past year, rising from $3,400 to $4,330, outperforming its digital rival BTC by over 70 percentage points. Over the same period, BTC plummeted 44%, falling from $117,000 to $65,000. A dollar invested in gold a year ago is now worth about $1.28, compared to just $0.55 for a dollar invested in BTC. Central banks added 863 tonnes of gold to their sovereign reserves in 2025, while gold ETF inflows exceeded 800 tonnes last year, reflecting growing institutional demand for the precious metal.
