BlackRock clients purchased $183.41 million worth of Bitcoin through the iShares Bitcoin Trust (IBIT), the asset manager’s dominant spot Bitcoin ETF. This transaction is part of a series of massive purchases observed in July 2026, with cumulative inflows exceeding $700 million over just a few days. BlackRock alone accounted for nearly 80% of all institutional Bitcoin buying through ETFs on July 6, and its market share is estimated at 50 to 60% of all spot Bitcoin ETF assets. By mid-July, BlackRock had surpassed 734,000 BTC under its custodianship, creating significant concentration risk: any change in BlackRock’s strategy, fee structure, or regulatory status could have major repercussions on the market.
