Bitcoin non-zero balance addresses reach 56 million, signaling adoption growth

Around 56.92 million Bitcoin addresses now hold at least some BTC as of July 30, 2026, up from fewer than 10 million in 2017. The address count has roughly doubled every several years, crossing 50 million by 2024 and approaching 57 million today. The network was adding around 150,000 new non-zero balance addresses per month in the weeks leading up to September 2026. Depending on methodology, different analytics platforms measured the count between 56.78 million and nearly 59 million. The vast majority of these addresses hold less than 0.1 Bitcoin each, and whales and institutional wallets still control a disproportionate share of total supply.
