Bitcoin Logs Strongest August in Nine Years, Setting Stage for Q4

Share

Bitcoin is on track to close this August with its strongest monthly performance in nine years, reversing a multi-quarter decline. The cryptocurrency’s third-quarter 2026 return stands at 32.48%, far exceeding the historical average of 7.94% for this period, ending a bearish trend that saw losses of 22.2% in Q1 and 14.09% in Q2. U.S. spot Bitcoin ETFs recorded 1.92 billion dollars in inflows, the largest weekly accumulation since October 2025. The U.S. Treasury’s decision to double its long-dated bond buybacks is the main catalyst behind this rally, while short sellers were forced to cover approximately 6.55 billion dollars in positions. Structural similarities to 2017 are notable: that year, a similar summer surge paved the way for a parabolic fourth quarter with a 325% gain pushing bitcoin near 20,000 dollars by mid-December.
