While Bitcoin shed 14.2% in the second quarter of 2026, institutional holdings in US spot Bitcoin ETFs climbed 7.5%, rising from 498,389 to 535,723 BTC. Total Bitcoin ETF holdings declined 6.6% to 1,211,322 BTC, indicating that retail and smaller allocators were pulling out while institutions were accumulating. The institutional share of Bitcoin ETF holdings hit a record 44.2%, up from 38.4% at the end of Q1. Morgan Stanley increased its iShares Bitcoin Trust (IBIT) holdings by 23%, while JPMorgan expanded its position by 25%, growing from 8.3 million to 10.4 million shares.
