Bison Bank, based in Lisbon, has become the first bank in Portugal to obtain a full Crypto-Asset Service Provider (CASP) license under the EU’s MiCA regulation. The authorization, granted on June 22, 2026, places the institution among roughly 30 banks across the entire European Union cleared to offer MiCA-compliant crypto services. Its subsidiary, Bison Digital Assets, launched in 2022, served around 275 clients and facilitated approximately 165 million euros in trading volume in 2025. In May 2026, the bank launched two stablecoins, EUB pegged to the euro and USB pegged to the US dollar, the first bank-issued stablecoins in Portugal. Bison Bank reported a recurring net profit of 5 million euros in 2025, with a CET1 ratio of 38.5%.
