SL Benfica announced on September 2 that central defender Tomás Araújo, 24, has signed a new long-term contract extension running through June 2031. The deal includes an €80 million release clause. This is the third contract renewal in roughly three years for the vice-captain, who rejected approaches from Premier League and La Liga clubs during the recent transfer window. The player, who joined Benfica’s academy in 2016, has made 113 appearances across all competitions.
