Moderna led the index with a 156 % gain in August after announcing promising results for its experimental melanoma vaccine developed with Merck, reviving interest in its mRNA technology. Enterprise software stocks like Palantir, Salesforce, ServiceNow and Veeva Systems also posted spectacular rebounds after AI-related fears proved overblown and the highly leveraged fund Situational Awareness was forced to unwind its positions. Coinbase landed among the month’s top performers as cryptocurrencies rebounded amid a broader shift toward hard assets as a hedge against a weaker dollar.
