The player joined the Madrid club in summer 2024 from Manchester City for an initial fee of 64.4 million pounds, potentially rising to 81.5 million with add-ons. FC Barcelona, despite submitting a 100 million pound bid and being the player’s preferred destination, has been firmly excluded from negotiations. Arsenal appears to be leading the race, with reports describing groundbreaking progress, while PSG has been circling since at least May 2026. Alvarez wishes to leave Atletico after the 2026 World Cup, but his options are limited to the two destinations approved by the club.
