Three Bitcoin holders have sued Apple in California federal court over a counterfeit Sparrow Wallet app that drained a combined $1.8 million. James Ramirez lost 7.4 BTC ($875,000), Christopher Ellis $840,000 and Jalen Delgado 1.05 BTC ($120,000). Sparrow Wallet only runs on Windows, macOS and Linux and has never had an iOS version, making any App Store listing under that name fraudulent. Developer Craig Raw had flagged copycat apps on the App Store since January 2024, but Apple rejected his legitimate listing as « placeholder content » and even threatened to terminate his developer account. The complaint alleges Apple ranked the fake app and included it in curated cryptocurrency collections, effectively recommending a fraudulent application alongside legitimate ones.
