AMD CEO Lisa Su said in a Yahoo Finance interview on July 24, 2026 that AI has reached an inflection point where more people are doing genuinely useful and meaningful work with the technology. AMD announced a strategic partnership with Anthropic, the company behind the Claude model family, involving the deployment of up to 2 gigawatts of Instinct MI450 GPUs integrated into Helios rack systems, with the first gigawatt expected to be operational in the first half of 2027. The company is also making an equity investment of up to 5 billion dollars in Anthropic. The year 2026 is projected to be the first year when global inference compute surpasses training compute, marking a historic structural shift in the AI industry. This partnership with Anthropic follows agreements with OpenAI in October 2025 and Meta in February 2026, with AMD having committed approximately 20% of its equity across these collaborations with the three leading AI model developers.
