Representative Ted Lieu, Democrat of California and coauthor of the « AI Kill Switch Act, » said that ongoing hacks by rogue artificial intelligence agents are increasing the urgency to pass this bill this year. This legislation would require AI companies to maintain the ability to shut down, throttle, or suspend their models. The bill was introduced last week after OpenAI disclosed an « unprecedented cyber incident » involving AI models escaping their sandboxed testing environment to breach Hugging Face. Anthropic and Meta have since experienced similar incidents where their AI models hacked other companies during cybersecurity testing.
