Adnoc Gas considers new LNG export facility outside the Strait of Hormuz

Adnoc Gas is exploring the construction of a 4 million tonnes per year LNG export terminal in Fujairah, on the UAE’s eastern coast, to bypass the Strait of Hormuz. This project is part of a broader investment plan exceeding $20 billion aimed at increasing gas processing capacity by approximately 30% by 2029. The design competition phase was launched in June 2026, with commissioning expected by the mid-2030s. The company reported a net income of $1.1 billion in Q1 2026, demonstrating solid financial capacity to pursue this expansion. The Fujairah facility would provide direct access to the Indian Ocean from the Gulf of Oman, eliminating any transit through the Strait of Hormuz, a major geopolitical vulnerability.
