SBI Crypto, a major Japanese Bitcoin mining pool, shut down its operations on July 31, 2024. Its seven-day average hashrate fell 64% in one month, dropping from 16.222 EH/s on June 30 to 5.817 EH/s on July 30. At the time of shutdown, three mega-mining pools – Foundry USA, AntPool and F2Pool – collectively controlled approximately 60% of the Bitcoin network hashrate. These same three pools already held a combined share of 64.8% as early as the week of July 20, before SBI Crypto’s cutoff.
