Bonobos cofounder Andy Dunn sold his company to Walmart in 2017 for $310 million, roughly one year after being hospitalized for a manic episode related to his Bipolar I disorder, diagnosed in college. In 2016, Dunn spent a week in a psychiatric ward at Bellevue Hospital in Manhattan following an acute episode during which he injured himself and was restrained by police. The entrepreneur then began medication and therapy that allowed him to regain control of his life. Founded in 2006 with $60,000, Bonobos was generating $120 million in annual revenue at the time of its acquisition by Walmart. Since then, Dunn has founded Pie, a social platform combating loneliness that now has over 310,000 users across 100 US cities.
