Bitcoin settled around $77,000 after a highly volatile day triggered by the release of the US Consumer Price Index data for August. BTC first dropped to $76,000, its multi-week low, before surging by nearly $4,000 to reach $79,800, only to be rejected and return to its starting point. Ethereum, meanwhile, hit a new eight-month high of $2,670 during the post-CPI rally, before retreating to just over $2,500. The total cryptocurrency market cap now stands at $2.640 trillion, with all eyes on the Federal Reserve.
