AMD stock surges past $500 as AI infrastructure boom lifts semiconductor sector

AMD shares broke above $500 on September 8, 2026, climbing more than 5% intraday to peak around $503 as investors bet on continued AI infrastructure spending. The move was part of a sector-wide rally, with peer chipmakers Micron, Nvidia, and Intel also posting gains. AMD reported Q2 2026 revenue of $11.54 billion, up 50% year-on-year, with data-center revenue of $6.72 billion representing 107% growth. The company’s market cap was estimated between $780 billion and $820 billion, and management guided Q3 revenue to approximately $13 billion, representing 41% growth. AMD has emerged as a credible second player in AI accelerators behind Nvidia, and if the company meets or exceeds its Q3 guidance when reporting in early November, the case for sustained upward pressure on the stock could become difficult to dismiss.
