On August 22, 2026, several individuals broke into a house in Vern-sur-Seiche, south of Rennes, and kidnapped and beaten the tenants present. The aggressors were actually targeting the property owner, known to hold cryptocurrencies, but he was absent, forcing them to flee. The investigation has been entrusted to the Rennes Research Section. Nationally, the National Organized Crime Prosecutor’s Office had recorded 135 kidnappings or attempted kidnappings related to digital assets since 2023. A similar case occurred on April 20 in Ploudalmézeau, Finistère, where aggressors stole a digital wallet after kidnapping five members of the same family.
