Goldman Strategist Holds 12,000 KOSPI Target: Will Memory Earnings Close a 74% Gap?

Goldman Sachs is maintaining a 12,000 target for the South Korean KOSPI index, which currently trades around 6,899, representing a 74% gap. Chief Asia Pacific strategist Timothy Moe bases his forecast on expected earnings growth of 360% this year and 35% in 2027, with a target valuation of 7.5 times forward earnings versus 5.3 times currently. The index’s two heavyweights, SK Hynix and Samsung Electronics, have surged 157% and 106% respectively year to date, pushing the index to a 60% gain in 2026. US Big Tech spending is projected to exceed $1.2 trillion next year, driving demand for South Korean memory chips. Morgan Stanley has also upgraded Korea to overweight with a 9,000 target.
