Volkswagen’s supervisory board has approved the Future Plan 2030, which includes 50,000 additional job cuts, doubling an existing workforce reduction program at Europe’s largest carmaker. The German automaker targets a 9% operating margin and 9 million annual vehicle sales by 2030, with plans to reduce its model range by approximately 50% by 2035 and 135 billion euros in capital and research investment between 2027 and 2031. European production capacity exceeds demand by more than 500,000 units, with four German plants (Emden, Zwickau, Hanover and Neckarsulm) facing uncertainty from 2031 onwards.
