Kospi Jumps, Following Wall Street, as Fed’s Waller Signals Rate Hold

South Korea’s Kospi surged 1.14% at Friday’s open, gaining 74.88 points to 6,650. The rally followed comments from Fed Governor Christopher Waller signaling support for a rate hold at the September 15-16 meeting, keeping rates in the 3.5% to 3.75% range. US indexes also closed higher, with the Dow Jones rising 1.18%, the S&P 500 adding 1.06%, and the Nasdaq Composite gaining 1.4%. Traders are now focused on Friday’s August nonfarm payrolls report, with economists polled by Dow Jones expecting 53,000 jobs added compared to a loss of 23,000 in July, while unemployment is forecast to hold at 4.1%.
