Tesla has expanded its Texas robotaxi fleet to 420 vehicles, a tenfold increase from the 42 vehicles authorized in May 2026 when a Texas law requiring fleet-size disclosures took effect. Waymo still leads the market with 577 vehicles reported at the same time. Tesla launched its service in Austin in June 2025 before expanding to Dallas and Houston in April 2026, incorporating 45 purpose-built Cybercabs into its fleet. However, the gap between registered and actively operating vehicles remains significant: during certain weeks in mid-2026, as few as 20 Tesla vehicles were recorded operating unsupervised in Austin, less than half of the initial authorization count.
