Netherlands Repatriates Gold from the United States: What’s Happening?

The Dutch central bank has transferred 86 tonnes of gold from the United States and Canada to London, citing « growing geopolitical instability ». Previously, Amsterdam held 31.3% of its reserves in New York and 19.7% in Ottawa, now reduced to 18.5% each, while London now accounts for over 32% of reserves. The Netherlands holds 612.4 tonnes of gold, valued at 72.2 billion euros by end of 2025. This move is part of a broader trend, with France having sold 129 tonnes of gold between July 2025 and January 2026.
