Ingham County Circuit Judge Rosemarie Aquilina granted Michigan a preliminary injunction against Kalshi on Tuesday, ordering the prediction market company to stop offering sports contracts in the state. Kalshi must implement geolocation through a provider licensed by the Michigan Gaming Control Board or face a 500,000-dollar daily fine. The injunction bars Kalshi from accepting deposits, advertising, and offering products functionally similar to sports betting, including parlays, moneyline bets and in-game wagers. Michigan requires bettors to be 21, while Kalshi accepts users at 18, a key point raised by Attorney General Dana Nessel, who sued Kalshi in March under the state’s Lawful Sports Betting Act. The order will remain in effect until a final judgment is issued.
