Tim Cook has stepped down as Apple CEO after fifteen years at the helm, passing the role to John Ternus, the company’s hardware chief. Cook will remain as executive chair with an annual salary of $2 million and a target equity award of $45 million. During his tenure, Apple’s market capitalization grew from roughly $347 billion to $4.6 trillion. Known as the ‘Trump whisperer’, Cook maintained close ties with both the U.S. president and the Chinese government, a relationship that proved vital as Apple sought to reduce its reliance on China while navigating trade tensions between Washington and Beijing. The company has committed to investing $600 billion in the U.S. over four years, including plans to hire 20,000 workers.
