G20 finance ministers and central bank governors, meeting in Asheville, North Carolina on August 31 and September 1, called for clearer rules to support digital asset innovation while maintaining financial stability. US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent, who leads the G20 finance track this year, said the group would pursue supervisory frameworks for digital financial and digital asset innovation. The G20 stopped short of setting new binding rules for stablecoins, referring the matter to the Financial Stability Board. Officials also reaffirmed the G20 roadmap for cross-border payments and encouraged countries to extend large-value payment-system operating hours. In the US, the Digital Asset Market Clarity Act still needs to clear the Senate, with a procedural vote scheduled for September 15.
