A 36-day staking bottleneck is costing Ethereum depositors over $350,000 in lost rewards daily

Share

Ethereum’s validator activation queue held 2.06 million ETH on Aug. 30, with an estimated wait of approximately 35 days and 18 hours. This backlog represents potential consensus rewards of roughly 141 to 148 ETH per day, worth about $348,000 to $366,000 at current prices. Over 42 million ETH is already staked, representing nearly 35% of the cryptocurrency’s total supply, reaching an all-time high. Ethereum’s limited capacity to process new activations, capped at 57,600 ETH per day, creates this bottleneck as demand for staking participation far exceeds the network’s processing ability. The congestion affects solo validators, funds, exchanges and staking providers, which cannot earn rewards until their deposit is activated.
