Biotech firms Veradermics, Absci, and Cosmo Pharmaceuticals are developing new treatments for pattern hair loss, including an oral pill, an injection, and a topical solution, with no new approved therapy in this field since the late 1990s. The condition affects approximately 50 million men and 30 million women in the United States, with current options limited to decades-old drugs. Veradermics’ stock has surged nearly 500% since its February IPO, while Absci shares have more than doubled this year after Eli Lilly invested $40 million in the company. None of the three companies have an approved product yet, with the earliest regulatory filings not expected before 2027.
