Amy Webb, founder of the foresight firm Future Today Strategy Group, is warning about an imminent bubble in corporate AI spending. According to her, artificial intelligence makes production cheap but makes everything else significantly more expensive, trapping companies in endless pilot purgatory that never scales. A Bain & Company survey reveals that nearly 40% of companies measuring their AI cost savings landed below 10%, against targets of 11 to 20%, yet this has not slowed investments as 90% of surveyed companies are still increasing their AI budget. Webb forecasts a reckoning as early as next year, when Wall Street will demand concrete results, and warns: « This isn’t like the economy takes a hit. It’s like the economy makes weird decisions. »
