The OpenAI CEO notably distanced himself from Dario Amodei, CEO of Anthropic, who estimates a 10-25% probability of catastrophic AI outcomes and predicts that AI could eliminate half of entry-level white-collar jobs within one to five years. Job losses in entry-level white-collar roles have indeed been slower than anticipated since ChatGPT launched in late 2022. Altman also criticized the AI industry for failing to communicate the benefits of the technology to the public, marking a shift from his previous stance that prioritized AI extinction risk alongside nuclear war and pandemics.
