The FBI is dropping its categorical ban on hiring applicants who have had sexual encounters with prostitutes, allowing instead for a more contextual evaluation of candidates. The bureau will still reject applicants who engaged in prostitution within the last 10 years, three or more times overall, or while in a position of public trust. This change comes as the FBI faces mass personnel exodus through retirements, voluntary resignations and firings, and has been loosening recruitment standards, including its previous softening of marijuana use policies. Former FBI agent Daniel Brunner criticized the shift, saying it suggests the applicant pool is extremely shallow right now.
