Cursor founder says OpenAI models account for just 5% of user traffic

Cursor founder and CEO Michael Truell revealed on August 29, 2026 that OpenAI models account for only 5% of the platform’s user traffic. OpenAI notified SpaceX on August 28 of the termination of Cursor’s model supply contract, effective November 12, 2026. The decision follows SpaceX’s acquisition of Anysphere, Cursor’s parent company, in a 60 billion dollar all-stock deal on August 14. OpenAI cited compliance concerns related to SpaceX and Elon Musk. Cursor, which generates over 3 billion dollars in annual recurring revenue and has over one million daily active users, already supports models from Anthropic, Google, and xAI.
