Ethereum core developers schedule EIP-8141 for Hegotá upgrade

Ethereum core developers have elevated EIP-8141, titled « Frame Transactions », to Scheduled for Inclusion status for the Hegotá upgrade planned for 2027, following the Glamsterdam upgrade expected in Q4 2026. This proposal introduces native account abstraction with programmable features including atomic transaction batching, third-party gas payments, and quantum-resistant signature schemes. The goal is to move account abstraction from the application layer, as enabled by ERC-4337, into Ethereum’s core protocol. Approximately 66 proposals are currently under consideration for Hegotá, with a deadline for developer preferences set for September 10, 2026. This advancement positions Ethereum against competing networks like Starknet, zkSync, and Near Protocol, which have already built account abstraction into their architectures.
