Between January 2025 and July 2026, the cryptocurrency sector recorded 245 security incidents resulting in $3.63 billion in total losses. The ten largest attacks accounted for over 72.5% of stolen funds. Of the 245 incidents, 147 targeted audited protocols, representing 88.44% of stolen capital, while only 11% of attacks exploited vulnerabilities within the audit scope. Infrastructure and supply-chain attacks alone caused over $1.8 billion in losses. Despite the rise in hacks, active insurance coverage fell to 20.2%, dropping from $163.2 million to $130.2 million, and five of the nine on-chain insurance protocols became inactive or pivoted by August 2026.
