Stripe launched two interconnected products to enable AI agents to conduct full purchase transactions: the Agentic Commerce Protocol (ACP), announced on September 29, 2025 in partnership with OpenAI, and the Agentic Commerce Suite (ACS), unveiled on December 11, 2025. ACP, an open standard licensed under Apache 2.0, allows AI agents to interact with merchant systems to browse catalogs, manage carts, complete purchases, and process payments directly from a conversation interface. Shared Payment Tokens (SPT) provide a security solution by issuing tokens limited in time and amount, avoiding the need to share a full card number with an agent. Early adopters include Etsy, URBN brands including Urban Outfitters, as well as Shopify merchants like Glossier and Spanx.
