India’s foreign-exchange reserves hit record high amid dollar inflows

India’s foreign exchange reserves surged to $716.91 billion during the week ending August 14, 2026, marking a six-month high after jumping $9.9 billion in a single week. The Reserve Bank of India attracted nearly $50 billion over seven weeks through concessional swap facilities and Foreign Currency Non-Resident deposits, with total inflows reaching approximately $57 billion since late June. Foreign currency assets rose by $7.225 billion to $581.851 billion, while gold reserves increased by $2.679 billion to $111.417 billion. Despite the massive reserve buildup, the Indian rupee remained stable around 95-96 per dollar as the RBI absorbed dollar inflows rather than letting them flow into the open market. India ranks as the world’s fifth-largest holder of forex reserves, approximately $11.6 billion short of its all-time high of $728.49 billion.
