London-based Chelsea FC announced this Friday that it has become the principal partner of Circle Internet Group, the US company behind the stablecoin USDC. The USDC by Circle logo will appear in gold lettering on the shirts of the men’s, women’s and academy teams starting from the Premier League match against Brighton on Sunday at Stamford Bridge. USDC has a market capitalization of $73.90 billion, far behind Tether’s USDT at $183.32 billion, but the deal gives Circle global exposure amid intensifying competition among stablecoins. Circle has recently obtained a US national bank charter and an electronic money issuer license from the UK’s FCA, regulatory milestones that set the company apart from other crypto actors criticized by British authorities. The exact duration and value of the contract have not been disclosed.
