Helius CEO accuses Kraken of mathematical illiteracy over SOL governance vote

Proposal SIMD-0550 to double Solana’s annual disinflation rate from 15% to 30% passed during the network’s first-ever binding on-chain governance vote. Helius estimates the change will cut approximately 18.9 million SOL from projected issuance over the next six years, representing a supply reduction of roughly $1.5 billion at current prices. Helius CEO Mert Mumtaz accused Kraken of mathematical illiteracy for abstaining from the vote while holding substantial SOL, a move deemed non-neutral in a stake-weighted system. Figment cast approximately 17.07 million SOL against the proposal, representing the largest opposing stake, arguing that a faster disinflation schedule directly reduces the nominal staking reward rate. Two additional proposals also passed, including a fee-burn mechanism and a broader constitutional framework for the network.
