First Quantum-Resistant Bitcoin Transaction Confirmed on Mainnet Without Protocol Change

The first quantum-resistant Bitcoin transaction has been confirmed on mainnet, mined through MARA’s private Slipstream mempool. This method, called Quantum Safe Bitcoin and developed by StarkWare’s Avihu Levy, relies on proof-of-work using hash functions believed to resist quantum attacks. It secures funds during the mempool window without requiring any change to consensus rules or a soft fork. Security is estimated at around 118 bits against Shor’s algorithm, with an added cost of a few hundred dollars in GPU time. MARA and its developers nonetheless present it as a temporary solution pending a protocol-level evolution.
