BNB Smart Chain activated the Pasteur hard fork on its mainnet on Tuesday. This upgrade combines three proposals (BEP-682, BEP-695, BEP-675) addressing security gaps in bridges and validators while increasing block capacity without changing the 450-millisecond block time. Tests conducted on the internal QANet environment showed throughput increasing from 1,237 to 2,324 transactions per second, a rise of approximately 88%. Average gas usage per block rose from 46.35 million to 84.15 million. The hard fork follows Maxwell and Fermi upgrades that had successively reduced average block time from 1.5 seconds to 0.8 seconds, then to 450 milliseconds.
