Van Dyke was charged with fraud in April for trading event contracts related to the removal of Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro. His defense attorneys oppose this move, calling the CFTC a regulatory wolf seeking to advance its interests through the back door. A judge already stayed the CFTC’s civil case pending the outcome of the criminal proceeding. The criminal trial could begin in late 2026 or early 2027, and Van Dyke has pleaded not guilty to all charges.
