Anthropic’s culture interview asks candidates how they’d feel if the company’s stock dropped to zero

Anthropic, the artificial intelligence company behind Claude, has integrated a 45-minute culture interview into its hiring process. The central question asks candidates how they would react if the company abandoned its AI safety ambitions and its stock price dropped to zero. Founded in 2021 by Dario and Daniela Amodei, the company, valued at nearly $1 trillion, uses this method to screen for mission-driven rather than money-driven hires. CEO Dario Amodei reportedly dedicates 30 to 40 percent of his time to culture and mission alignment challenges. Some candidates reportedly spend up to $4,600 on coaching to prepare for this culture interview.
