On the night of August 10-11, several individuals broke into the home of a couple in Rion-des-Landes, Landes, threatening them to gain access to their bitcoins and other cryptocurrencies. After sequestering the victims at the property, the aggressors took them to two separate locations: the man was found in Solferino, naked and injured, while the woman was found in a vehicle in another department. Two men have been arrested and the specialized interregional jurisdiction of Bordeaux has taken up the case. In France, 77 cases of sequestration, kidnapping, extortion or attempts linked to crypto have been recorded since the beginning of the year, compared with 45 throughout 2025.
