Marvell Technology has announced discussions with Google to develop custom chips spanning artificial intelligence, storage, and networking. The talks, first made public on April 19, 2026, involve a Memory Processing Unit designed to complement Google’s existing Tensor Processing Units, as well as a new inference-optimized TPU for AI workloads. Marvell is acting as a design-services provider, supplementing rather than replacing Google’s current TPU lineup. The target timeline has the MPU design finalized by 2027, while Marvell’s stock jumped 5 to 6 percent on the day of the announcement. Google’s partnership with Broadcom was recently extended through 2031.
